George Hi Hunting Packages & Services

The George
Hi
Hunt

When you come to hunt the George Hi Plantation, there's little you'll  need to bring with you. But best of all, there's lot's you can leave behind.

You'll want to bring your well-broken upland boots, but you probably  won't need heavy socks for warmth. Southeastern North Carolina's mornings are  crisp, but almost never real cold. In hunting seasons, early morning  temperatures average between (35-45ºF).

Oh, and there's your good field jacket and pants. But remember that  by midday break, it can be anywhere from (45-55ºF). Go out cool and brisk and  finish warm.

Every room in the Plantation House has a custom rack for your good guns. And there're cleaning kits available. We keep a stock of the best 12 and 20 Ga, loaded with #7 1/2 and #8, of course.

There's a place for the modern here. The facilities were redone, top  to bottom, just last autumn. New kitchens, freshly-decorated common rooms and quarters.

But the George Hi Plantation has been a working farm since long before the War of Secession. The main house was up in 1855 and some of the out buildings go back to the 18th century.

So the past and the present stay connected. Like our food, country Carolina cooking ingredients, updated in style and taste.

The Plantation's bird stock has been replenished and nurtured each year for a couple of decades. The hunting sites are in haying fields, stands of Loblolly pine, among the rows of beans and clumps of sorghum and milo. Hundreds of acres of them. You can hunt for a week and never repeat a spot and never leave the Plantation. They'll be plenty of time to rejoin the 21st Century...but now just now, thank you.

The George Hi is the real thing. Life here is what so many newcomers are trying to replicate. But this is an original, from back when The South was young. The proprietors, Charles DuBose, father and son, have Carolina roots back to the 17th Century. And the senior, known as Jack, has more stories of The South than his relative, the famed Southern story-teller DuBose Heyward. Fireside nights are not always card games or TV.

Come and hunt a spell. You'll take home you're daily bag and much more -- the memories that last a lifetime.

This hunt includes one full day's hunting with the privilege of bagging 12 quail, lodging accommodations, guide service, and foot hunting from vehicle.

Usual hunts are for three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. However, the hunt can be planned to suit your schedule and game species.
