To be sure, you can have your meetings anywhere. The islands, Europe. They're great. But first you have to show up at the airport three hours early, hassle with the "modern" facilities, and get vacuum-cleaned by layer upon layer of security, dealing with blank-faced, bored clerks in uniform. And if you have to change planes, you get to live in that world twice. And then do it all over again on the way home.

Or...you can skip these most unpleasant parts of the 21st Century and gather at the George Hi Plantation in rural North Carolina. It has the beauty, charm and ease of life the way it was when the George Hi began, in the late 18th and early 19th Century. Not that you have to give up the true modern conveniences - far from it! The farm has satellite-service, faxes, modem ports and what isn't on hand, we can provide lickety-split.

The common rooms include a large sitting room with an entertainment center; a game room with a wet bar; a conference and dining room, and the all-important kitchen. Elsewhere in the main house are five bedrooms that can sleep 10.

There are two porches, front and back. Evenings on the back porch, the sun sets over the dam and the small private lake dotted with water fowl. The front porch overlooks old fields and older Oaks. And, if you're lucky, the sight of a family of rare Black Fox Squirrels. There are two living in a hollow tree a hundred yards away.

Front and back, there are horses; deer come to munch in the cut-down fields. And at sunset, the bark of foxes greeting the night.

Deep into the woods of the farm, there's the remnants of a homesteading village that was wiped out in the late 18th Century by smallpox and indian raids. But the chimnies still stand and the you can see the ruts in the road, layed down about the time Dolly Madison was in The White House. Perhaps just about the time when Miz Madison was fleeing the British troops, with the Constitution under one arm and her silverware under th'other. We can show you the way, through Briar patches that would make B'rer Rabbit proud.

This is the Old South and history is as much a part of every day as grits.

So when you think about a business conference, the time-out isn't just fun on the beach or trying to read a French menu. It's right here in your own country.  And we do mean Country.
